Holly

Out of curiosity I decided to do some research on the holly plant. Turns out it is steeped in ancient traditions for this time of year. The Chinese, Romans, Druids, Pagans and Christians all have used holly as part of seasonal celebration. The link below gives the full description of the historical use of holly.

In alternative medicine, Holly is one of Dr. Bach's flower remedies. Holly belongs to the group of 'oversensitivity to influences and ideas'. The Holly state can be one of frazzled nerves, over stimulated by environmental impact and general exhaustion. Sounds like a remedy for the leadup to Xmas if I've ever heard of one!

You can buy Dr. Bach's Holly from Nelsons Pharmacy. Take as directed. Click the link for the history of holly.

Xmas tree

Also curious is the history behind the Christmas tree. Actually the tree symbolises renewal and growth or life itself. Using evergreens as decoration this time of year finds roots even deeper than holly. If you have ever wondered why we continue these traditions, have a look at the link below. Very interesting!

It doesn't seem as though it is going to be a newsletter containing much homeopathy. I looked up Pine in my book and again another Bach Flower Remedy came up. This one is for despondency and despair, with feelings of guilt, regret and self- reproach. People needing this remedy have a very hard time forgiving themselves.

I am not a Bach practitioner so I can only give the details I find in my books as I do not have any clinical experience using these remedies. If you would like more information, call Nelsons Pharmacy on 0208 629 3118 and ask about Bach remedies and practitioners.

Whichever holiday you are celebrating, may it be full of love, peace and laughter. And may 2006 be brimming with opportunity and good fortune for all!

Keep well and keep your loved ones close.
